EDITION 8 : FORCES OF NATURE

One afternoon, Joe received a call from Mosaic Inc asking if we would be interested in participating a fundraising event to help Event Pros Take Action, a nonprofit organization started a few years ago that unites special event professionals to give back to those who have lost their home due to an environmental tragedy.

The fundraising event was entitled “Forces of Nature.” Five event designers were called upon to design a 30’x 30’ raw space, revolving around a certain color. Our firm chose orange. Orange, we know combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

Each space needed to be adorned with a signature beverage and an assortment of hors d’oeuvres for the guests to enjoy. The goal was to serve the guests while never seeing the wait staff. We started by designing a 30-foot decorative wall that created a secret passageway behind it.

BIG Catering was then able to prep the hors d’oeuvres and slide them through the wall allowing guests to easily grab different selections. BIG was also able to see the areas that needed to be refilled quickly and often. The shelves were never empty!

The overall design of our room had a mid-century flair. The wall was adorned with “orange inspired items.” Orange vases and flowers, books and sculptures, photos of red head, Tina Louise along with Frank Sinatra, who’s favorite color was orange, of course!

To adorn the existing windows and cut out the light, we covered them with the skyline of downtown Pittsburgh. Our graphic designer filtered the skyline to give it an orange hue.

Besides the wall, the other major focal point was a floral chandelier created out of gold rings with pave’ flowers of orange poppies, roses, ranunculus, and green cymbidium orchids.

What an inspiring night! It was such a wonderful feeling to collaborate with colleagues benefiting a terrific and much needed organization. All the designers did a fantastic job in support of a great cause! For more information, visit: https://www.facebook.com/eventprostakeaction/.
